Shooting the Wounded: An Evening With Franklin Einspruch
Post #1798 • January 8, 2018, 12:10 PM
Join Boston-based artist and writer Franklin Einspruch for a discussion about what it means to be a critic, a role that Murray Kempton once described as "someone who enters the battlefield after the war is over and shoots the wounded." It's 2018 - what part does the art critic have to play in a new-technology media landscape full of quantitative ratings, democratized access, and destroyed business models? What exactly is criticism, anyway, and how can it address the enormous range of work being made? And why are there so few negative art reviews nowadays? We will address these questions and more in an informal and lively conversation.
While maintaining a studio practice as an artist in Boston, Franklin Einspruch is also active in art criticism, comics, and alternative publishing. Einspruch created a geospatial and calendrical platform for art criticism, Delicious Line, and now serves as its Editor-In-Chief and the founding director of the nonprofit corporation that supports it. More information about him is available at franklin.art.
The fun begins at 7 PM on January 24, 2018 at Vernon Street Studios in Somerville, RSVP here. A $8 contribution is requested but not required.
