The Pleasures of Fall

Starting off the morning right.
Caterpillar by Ikea.
Mushrooms uncovered when the leaves moved.
When I was an artist in residence in Northern California in April I got a woodchopping lesson from a seasoned forester. One, knock a splitting wedge into an amenable place in the log using a drilling hammer.
Two, whack with a 10-pound sledge.
Three, split the sections with an ax.
Repeat. That the wood you cut yourself warms you twice is only part of the story. There's a third warmth in the heart when you see it stacked high.
