japanese visitors

Yesterday the Governor of Wakayama Prefecture in Japan and his entourage visited our studios at ArtCenter. I handed out brochures of my work. A Japanese woman who was part of the delegation, someone who seemed to speak little English, took one look at the image on the cover and said, “Ah. Fauvist. Also Impressionist.” I agreed.
My attempts to paint in a manner that magnifies what I love about Impressionism leapt over a chasm of cultural differences, landed on willing eyes, and were recognized. “Arigato,” I said, and bowed slightly, but it was inadequate. I wanted to throw a party.
