Sketchbook scans from the Boston Dr. Sketchy's a few weeks ago. Photos of the event likely violate your workplace's standards of propriety. The model was Sugar Dish, a gifted entertainer and director of the destined holiday classic The Slutcracker, which warmed our hearts on a chilly winter evening last December.

Oh, but the fourth drawing -- the one she signed -- I like that face. That's almost something out of Toulouse-Lautrec or Punch. And the third face is very good, also.
She signed one for you -- did you give her a drawing as well?

Franklin, you know, of course, that Marlene Dumas (meaning the imaginary person Chris had believed was Marlene Dumas) would never approve. I'm afraid this isn't dark enough. You'll never win over the, uh, serious crowd like this.

I agree, Chris. Franklin has definite male gaze issues, and let's not even get into his thing for Balthus. I expect President Obama will be issuing an executive order to address the matter any day now.

Don't be so cavalier, Franklin. You're lucky the president can barely spare a second now, what with trying to find a Cabinet nominee who's not a tax cheat and all, but don't push it. You could find yourself sentenced to painting Nancy Pelosi as Olympia (with Condy Rice as the servant with the flowers), and you don't want that, now do you?

Jack, aren't you actually glad that a few members of the new administration are congenitally opposed to paying taxes? Tax cheats from a puritanical point of view, perhaps, but enlightened from that of a libertarian.

Nice try, John, but that would only fly if they'd been honest about it all along, as opposed to admitting it when it became inevitable (not to mention the fact that, when nobody knew they were cheating, they would all have readily paid lip service to the importance of obeying the tax laws). Sorry, but can't have it both ways.

Besides, in Daschle's case, the offense is considerably aggravated by those ludicrously prissy pink glasses. I mean, being a hypocrite and a cheat is par for the course, I suppose, but running around looking like a damn fool is another. What's next, Harry Reid decked out like Puff Daddy?

Hey, I just heard Nancy Pelosi say that if they don't get that stimulus thing through it will cost America 500 million jobs. Dumb me! I didn't evem know we had 500 million jobs! I guess just about every man woman and child in this great country is working at least two.

Well Opie, if Pelosi is correct, and the stimulus doesn't pass, then we can talk about how many jobs we don't have. In my case, that would be something like not having 3.2 jobs. (Intuitive math, my calculator is not handy.)
Seems like it would follow that I would be entitled to 3.2 unemployment checks instead of just one.

Nancy looks very enlightened, I mean tightened, as in her face is stretched so tight it seems she can't close her eyes. Somehow, I don't think Golda Meir would have been impressed.

The only surgery of Pelosi's that I objected to was the controversial spine removal procedure she presumably underwent years ago (or, was she born without one?).
Still, it seems perverse to complain too much about the Dems, considering the outgoing Repugnican admin. was comprised of a far more wretched and remorseless bunch of criminals.
But, of course, this is a place for talk about art, not politics... right?
Nice drawings, Franklin (the last one's the best)... there's just something about a model in thigh-highs.
I clicked over to the Toronto Dr. Sketchy site, hoping there might be a picture of the back of my head somewhere, but they don't seem to have posted pictures from the session I attended. Darn...

Nicely gestural. I can never be this loose for some reason. I'm either on or I'm stilted. I envy you that much.
My only criticism would be you need to get the cartoon out of your faces. I noticed it in your other drawings, too. I'm not sure how you can do that aside from practice, practice. I know I got a lot better at faces just by doing them over and over.
No need to become a portrait artist or anything. It's just that second drawing, for example, could be something out of Roz Chast.
