I guess this means that the Friday Roundup is back

Grayson Perry, for whom I'm starting to feel respect that borders on kinship, contemplates what makes art valuable, financially speaking. (Don't worry - I'm not going to start dressing up like a six-year-old girl.) (AJ)
These nihlists all deserve each other. Grace, my ass.
"He said he liked rap, so I said, 'Well, you know what rock 'n' roll is,' and he did, so I said, 'Can you imagine if Pete Townshend smashed a Fender Stratocaster over your head, repeatedly? That's what we feel like doing to you right now.' And he looked at me, and he got it immediately." (Reddit, but AJ had a better link)
Bad review? Blow it off.
From the newspaper that brought you the Mohammed cartoons: "Islamism is a reactionary ideology which kills equality, freedom and secularism wherever it is present. ... We reject 'cultural relativism,' which consists in accepting that men and women of Muslim culture should be deprived of the right to equality, freedom and secular values in the name of respect for cultures and traditions. ... We plead for the universality of freedom of expression, so that a critical spirit may be exercised on all continents, against all abuses and all dogmas." Yet another right-wing nutjob? No, Salman Rushdie, Irshad Manji, and ten other Muslim luminaries. The next time you butter your toast, make it Lurpak. (Sully)
BuyNewArt.com is possibly the first service of its kind that doesn't look completely ridiculous. Photo only, though.
In what seems like a cultural indicator, MiamIntelligence is closing at the end of March. An article about Chinese painting classes I took there is now up.
Google "college art association blog" and guess what comes up first.
Not giving Todd Gibson access to the Armory is like not giving Brian Greene access to a junior high school science fair. Dear Armory: Get a clue. Next week: why I went to Art Miami and Palm Beach 3 and didn't write about either.
The latest Land Grant College Review just came in with a note saying that they're fans of Artblog.net. This issue features rather wonderful illustrations by Marilyn Holsing.
Because he got gypped last week: frequent Artblog.net commenter Ryan McCourt has a new blog.
Updates: Dorsch made the first round at Nova, as did Lemon Sky. Kristen Thiele has a new studio and a new website.

re: Brian Green
For those without sciencephobia I can highly reccomend his book The Elegant Universe as an interesting read on our understanding of "stuff", big stuff and small stuff in 11 dimensions.

Hello - I was directed to your website because it is an attitude-leader in the arts world. I was wondering if you might be interested in the roundtable review which will launch shortly.
It is a new cultural online journal at http://www.roundtablereview.co.uk.

Because he got gypped last week: frequent Artblog.net commenter Ryan McCourt has a new blog.
Is this another spoof, Franklin?
I don't want to break any guidelines and 'out' anyone, but I've got it on pretty good authority that 'frequent Artblog.net commenter ahab" is NOT Ryan McCourt.

Dear Dorsch in NOVA,
Throwbridge, Reedy, and Meesey should be showcased. Some of the other stuff made by artists in Dorsch should not leave Miami and may make the gallery look incoherent.
This based on the website array of artists.

Not sure that this will clear it up, or that it matters to anyone, but I am only one man: Rob Willms. 'Ahab' is not a secret identity, just a penname.
The studiosavant blog plug is much appreciated, Franklin. I can't get it to come up on Google's radar no matter how I tweak the text.

Trowbridge - Not Throwbridge. Blanco, Einspruch and Scalise would be a good group as well. Either way he should focus the content of his booth to only a few artists.

Local pub ignore Magazine has coverage of the now finished (?) exhibit at Red Dot Project
http://ignoremagazine.com/discourse/art/silva_and_laurita/index.html
not too shabby.
Miami Intelligence was generally unorganized and confusing. It's a sign of nothing.

I followed the Dorsch link to your paintings Franklin. Of the three I think the middle one, "23.dec.02: Nude (A.F.) 3", is the best, even though pink is often seems to be a dubious colour: one I am wary of. But all of the works there are pretty good. No, uupgrade that to really good.
I guess the gallery has limited spots for a starting lineup, which is why commentors are throwing suggestions into the air?

Glad we cleared that up. That McCourt guy has a reputation in some circles as a big meanie, and I wouldn't want anyone to miss ahab's blog on my, er, I mean, his account.

Sorry about the confusion regarding Studiosavant. At any rate, there's a new blog for the North Edmonton Sculpture Workshop called Studiosavant. Check it.
If you haven't done so already, submit your site to Google. If you have, just wait. Google will find you.

You see Franklin? That's what I mean by not having registration. Some poor fellow gets yelled at by his boss, his girlfriend leaves him, he has a flat on 95 and his dog throws up on his new couch and he can get on the blog and anonymously let it all out on you. It's a real public service. You should get a humanitarian award.

Sometimes people come and like what you do and they buy something; but there is somehow someone in between who takes the money and the creator has no choice but to steal their roomates gun and make a couple of unexpected visits.

Congratulations to Dorsch Gallery, the deserve to be representing Miami but Lemon Sky? I mean they don't even have a space and I don't think they have had a real show (calling Aqua a real show is a stretch) in some time now. Does anyone know who else applied? Seems like there wasn't much competition if their letting galleries run out of a condo in. or are other miami galleries applying to another fair around the same weekend? like basel/nada/scope/aqua fairs?

I want people to see the eminently deletable comment in #15 so that they know why I finally implemented moderation and registration. I don't mind getting insulted, but I refuse to enable anonymous threats of violence. That's screwed up and potentially pulls me into legal problems.

I don't like the comment any more than you do, Franklin, but no one is getting specifically threatened. It is just dumb juvenile yak.

Re Todd Gibson and the Armory, it appears the operating philosophy of the PFAC (e.g., the Alesh incident) may be quite pervasive. Of course, these people will swear on a stack of Bibles (or whatever) that they wouldn't dream of condoning, let alone practicing, any kind of censorship or self-serving discrimination. Really, really pitiful.
